Judith raking in a pot!

I woke up at the crack of eight and couldn’t believe I slept in again.  The phone rang moments after I got up and it was Darrell.  They were still in the motel in Prince George and thought they would be here shortly after noon.  Darrell urged me to play in the Sunday 250k; something I hadn’t planned to do.

Judith was up at nine and we discussed the day.  After breakfast I headed over to the garden to check things out.  As I pulled into the garden I could see a family of Ruffed Grouse heading for the woods.  They were in eating the clover and they looked to be about the same size as the hen.  This seems to have been an excellent year for the grouse hatch and there should be lots for the approaching hunting season.  The garden looked good but will need plenty of water during this next hot spell.

I headed into Smithers at ten to pick up the boat.  Judith handed me a small list to pick up at Safeway when I got all the chips and dip for tonight’s poker party.  Russ helped me hook up the boat and I was back at River House at noon.  I unloaded the groceries, checked in with Judith and then registered for the Sunday 250K.

Over thirty thousand registered for the tournament today.  I caught very few good cards but hung in there and managed to finish 1904th and collected $33.61 for my eleven dollar investment.  Darrell and Judy drove in while I was still playing at about three thirty.

Once I was out of the tournament we piled into the crew cab Polaris and headed for the garden.  When we got to the lake we took them over, via the lake bed, to our newly created island.  The new dam at the back end is solid as a rock should do the job.

I picked the strawberries while Judith picked a few salad greens and Darrell and Judy checked out the garden.

We ate at six; early for us but we had guys coming at seven for poker night.  Judith cooked spaghetti, served with fresh lettuce and bread made out of our pizza dough.

The guys started arriving at six forty five and I learned immediately that Leroy wasn’t coming.  That left us with only five guys and we immediately recruited Judith and Judy to join us on the green felt.  We only played one tournament and Eric took first, Dennis second and Marty third. Darrell finished on the bubble and I was fifth.  The girls were good sports and played pretty well.  The game broke up at ten thirty and no one was up for another round.  We did play a little pool.  I’m learning poker is a winter “sport” here in the Great White North and putting a game together during the summer is hard to do.

The seas are kicking up in Rupert so getting out may be a problem.  I’ll check the weather again tomorrow.
