ANOTHER month bites the dust! It sure seems the older you are the faster time flies!
I was behind the eight ball the second I woke up. I wanted to get up at six so I could spend time with Darrell before I left for Smithers at seven fifteen. I did wake up at six BUT closed my eyes for a few more winks and didn’t wake up until seven. I had a quick cup of coffee and jumped in the truck.
I had Andrew coming at nine and I needed to pick up a Jumping Jack vibrator for the day’s activities. North Country Rentals opens at eight and I drove in at one minute after. I helped the owner throw it in the back of my truck and was back on the road at five after, paper work be damned. I made a quick stop at BV supply to pick up two by fours.
I was back at River House at eight forty five and had mixed feelings about seeing the Grigg’s car still in the driveway; I wanted to say goodbye but knew they had to get on the road. Judy was up and ready to go but Darrell was giving Judith some last minute Tivo instructions.
Andrew drove in at nine on the dot and I had him come in for a cup of coffee before we headed for the new garden. We said our goodbyes and they were off late for a LONG day of driving.
Job one in the new garden was filling in and compacting dirt around the poured posts. I had the easy job running the tractor and Andrew drew the short straw running the machine. I figured it would take about three hours and only missed it by thirty minutes.
We tried to fight the fight after lunch, however, it was close to ninety degrees and we decided to stop and get an early start Monday morning. We loaded up the Jumping Jack and I took it back into Smithers. Peter’s daughter, Natasha, left her camera last night and I dropped it off before heading home. I couldn’t resist stopping at the ice cream stand in Telkwa which was doing a land office business on this HOT day.
After a quick shower we sat down and started playing gin. Judith agreed to play four games to make up for all the days we missed during the month. I would have had to win all four to win the month but that dream was dashed on the very first game when I lost. She won the month and now leads the year Five months to two.
As soon as the card game was over we took a ride over to the garden and then down to the hay field. The garden looked in good shape but will need lots of water tomorrow. They finished baling this afternoon and we only made a disappointing SEVENTY bales. Our best in years past was one hundred and seventy six. The good news it looks to be good quality even with the rain happening the day it was cut.
Leftover pizza was just the ticket for dinner; GOOD and NO dishes.
